New path, bench to celebrate his work.
Supporting The Friends of Hollinswood and Randlay Valley in this, has been one of the most rewarding, touching projects of the year.
Councillor Chris Turley spent many years promoting and championing not only the Parish and Nedge Ward, but his wish to enhance the Valley for all to use, with easier access, was something very close to his heart.
This lasting tribute will forever remind us all of his hard work and efforts over many years and the Parish Council is proud to support this legacy.
In the coming months the information boards will be updated to show the newly named path along with the other enhancements across the valley with the walking routes and benches.
The following is the press release – Chris Turley Commemorative Event, Randlay Valley – 27th September 2025.
In August 2024, Chris Turley sadly passed away – since then, The Friends of Hollinswood and Randlay Valley have been planning a suitable way to celebrate his work within the valley, and his championing of the area as their chairman.
With the support of Severn Gorge Countryside Trust, Hollinswood and Randlay Parish Council and the Friends group, the decision was made to create a lasting and suitable legacy. Not only was a new path to be named after Chris, but a specially made unique bench with wood from Severn Gorge was to be created. Along with these, a redwood tree would be planted near the bench. Finally, a rustic slate memorial stone was to be engraved and then sited on the corner of the chosen area.

On the 27th September 2025, The Deputy Mayor of Telford and Wrekin Council, Councillor Nathalie Page, with The Chairman of the Parish Council, Councillor Sheenagh Unwin and the Chairman of the Friends Group, Harvey Unwin, officially opened the commemorative site. They all welcomed members of Chris’s family and friends, with Chris’s son doing the honours of unveiling the bench. Chris Turleys sister-in-law, Pam, was also presented with an image of the new map indicating the new path and bench location.
Chris Turleys legacy within Hollinswood and Randlay Valley will be a testament to his hard work and efforts to improve the valley for all local residents, and to remain the jewel within the Parish of Hollinswood and Randlay for many, many years to come.
