On behalf of National Highways, we are writing to inform you of some upcoming maintenance work along the M54.
What we’re doing and why? What are the benefits?
We’ll be carrying out concrete repairs to the carriageway along the M54 between junction 2 and junction 4, in both directions. We’ll also replace road markings and road studs. Our completed work will continue to provide safe journeys through the Midlands.
Due to the concrete needing time to set to the required strength, we’ll need to carry this work out under eight phased full weekend closures of the M54 motorway. To reduce the impact on road users, we’ll close the M54 in one direction at a time. We’ll also need to close the M54 on the Thursday nights prior to our full weekend closure.
When will this work take place?
We’ll work from 27 February 2025 to 21 April 2025. To carry out our work safely, we’ll close the M54 as follows:
Thursday 27 February from 8pm to 6am and Friday 28 February at 8pm to 6am Monday 3 March – M54 eastbound junction 4 to junction 3 closed.
Thursday 6 March from 8pm to 6am and Friday 7 March at 8pm to 6am Monday 10 March – M54 eastbound junction 4 to junction 3 closed.
Thursday 13 March from 8pm to 6am and Friday 14 March at 8pm to 6am Monday 17 March – M54 eastbound junction 4 to junction 2 closed.
Thursday 20 March from 8pm to 6am and Friday 21 March at 8pm to 6am Monday 24 March – M54 eastbound junction 3 to junction 2 closed.
Thursday 27 March from 8pm to 6am and Friday 28 March at 8pm to 6am Monday 31 March – M54 eastbound junction 3 to junction 2 closed.
Thursday 3 April from 8pm to 6am and Friday 4 April at 8pm to 6am Monday 7 April – M54 eastbound junction 4 to junction 2 closed.
Thursday 10 April from 8pm to 6am and Friday 11 April at 8pm to 6am Monday 14 April – M54 westbound junction 2 to junction 3 closed.
Thursday 17 April from 8pm to 6am and Friday 18 April at 8pm to 6am Monday 21 April – M54 westbound junction 2 to junction 3 closed.
We have carefully considered the delivery of this work. Our full weekend closures will enable us to carry out our work safely and allow the concrete to set to the required strength.
What does this mean for you?
During our work, we’ll install fully signed diversion routes which have been agreed by the local authority. Our diversion routes will be via Castle Farm Way, A5 Watling Street, A449 Stafford Road, and A41 Newport Road. We plan to carry out further resurfacing work at this location, we’ll write to you again at the earliest opportunity.
We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum. We always aim to work to the programme, however unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes.
Emergency vehicles will have access throughout.
